Jennifer Akkermans is the Founder and Chief Researcher of the Institute of Morphoid Research (IMR). She created the Institute in 2011, and has since been researching the Morphoids in detail, making a documentary about the IMR, and keeping up the Institute’s website.
Jennifer graduated with her BFA (with distinction) from the Alberta College of Art + Design in 2011. She also holds a Ph.D in Cryptozoology from Thunderwood College. Since then, she has participated in the Gushul Studio Residency in Blairmore, Alberta, participated in the Fluid Festival’s performance-based Spark residency, and completed her documentary about the IMR through EMMEDIA’s Production Access program. Jennifer has shown work in many exhibitions, including a solo show (Institute of Morphoid Research) at the Art Gallery of Calgary, Terrarium, in Stride Gallery’s +15 as part of The International Festival of Animated Objects, and the Alberta Craft Council’s Coming Up Next, as part of Edmonton’s The Works Festival.
Jennifer is currently pursuing her Master of Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo.
