Still working….

Things are starting to come together.  I’ve redone the slip cover, ironed it and put it onto the frame.  We cleaned the studio, and have some idea where to move all the furniture for the open houses.

Tonight Latifa moved the sound stuff into the studio and installed it under the house.  I still need to adjust the projection, hopefully so it will fall just on the house.  We are excited to see how this will turn out, all of it together!

Working, working, working.

We’ve been working.

I’ve been working on the house, making the slip cover and playing with the projection.

Latifa has been working with the sound.  The photos above show how excited she was about a breakthrough she had…. by a series of post its left on my front door.  Lol.

We are getting close to finishing what we’re working on, and so I’m hesitant about what I show here, because I don’t want to ruin it.  You should come to one of our open houses this next week, which I will be posting more about today.

Star Falls/ Latifa’s First Interview!

Tonight we went for a walk with Kristin and her two dogs, Sadie and Rosko.  We walked the Star Falls trail, which was really short, but beautiful, of course.

Latifa interviewing Krisin, who is being recorded on the phone.

Latifa was interviewing Kristin, for her sound work, which we have decided may or may not happen this month.

I was falling behind taking photos…. of Latifa and Kristin.

On the way out… a beautiful view.

As for the 3D stuff… I’ve been feeling a little stuck in terms of content, but that may be my education talking.  I’m a little uncomfortable because I don’t have a conceptual reason/idea to use a certain type of image with the SIRDs, but maybe I don’t need to, as this is turning into more of a research based project anyway.  I just don’t want to make a bunch of cool 3D effects with landscapes.  What to use, what to use?  Sleep on it.

Thoughts and decisions

I am thinking with all the things we have left to do and all the things I want to do I am going to cut the voice part of the sound project. Sometimes there is just too much, and decisions have to be made. That doesn’t mean I’ll turn down potential interviewees, but I need to concentrate on the most important things. It is now reaching the halfway point. I will definitely have a sound component but will use the sounds I have collected thus far. This evening I collected a lot of melodic samples on the keyboard. Now I just have to get Jen singing hehe.
We were talking earlier and I really think it’s true that to get good interviews you have to become part of a community and it takes time and continued effort to integrate. We are still very much outsiders, in addition to the fact that we spend most of our time in our creative bubble.
Nonetheless I am still very excited about my 8-channel interface, even if I haven’t used it much yet.

Posters!

Today we started putting up posters around town. I am hoping a few people will respond so I can get some interviews.
Ah, good ol’ human-human interaction.

Visitors/ Lundbreck Falls/ Working in the Studio

So yesterday my mother stopped by as she was going through town, and took us out for lunch.  Today, Latifa’s family came to visit.  We went for lunch with them, and then went to Lundbreck Falls.  I enjoyed meeting her family and the afternoon we spent with them.

Latifa and her father cooling their feet in the river

Lundbreck Falls is a beautiful place.  I have spent quite a bit of time there, with my family as a child and even as recently as a couple of years ago.  The Crowsnest is a great place to fish, and so my father and I have come here to fish a few times.  The falls are much busier than I remember ever having seen them though, but that might be because it’s the last long weekend of the summer.

Latifa drawing…

As for working, we’ve been working on a lot of things, all revolving around the idea of “Perception.”  Right now, it’s mostly just playing around with a lot of things…. Latifa has been working on a humongous drawing and making noises to use for a sound installation.  I’ve been playing around with some photos and some video stuff I’ve been taking with my camera.  I’ve also been doing quite a bit of research on stereoscopic and anaglyphic 3D images and so we’ve been doing a lot of looking at things through pieces of colored acetate.  That is what I should have up here for images… maybe I’ll get Latifa to pose later.  Anyway, here’s a short video of Latifa collecting sound.

We are having a good adventure, but honestly, life seems just as busy as it is at home.
