Excuse me while I gush a while…

A personal journey…

I just wanted to say that this has been an absolutely amazing experience that I am incredibly grateful for, and feel immensely lucky to be a part of.  This place is amazing, the studio is huge and has incredible windows, and Latifa is something else.  We get along really well, and though we’ve been together almost constantly for three weeks now, I am in no way bored of her company or tired of her jokes and stories.  While she says, “I’ve learned so much from you,” I’ve definitely learned just as much from her.  We’ve had an interesting experience working together, and have come up with something I think we are both proud of, and feel fulfilled in having made.  It is a good experience in collaboration- I think we both feel like it is “ours,” not “mine” or “yours.”  We have made a good team, and I know that, I for one, feel like I have gained a friend.

I have totally lucked out.  Thank you Trap/Door for giving us the opportunity to come here and have this experience.  It has been wonderful so far, and I’ll be sad to leave next week.  We’ll make sure we get the most out of the last few days, and appreciate our time here.

If this is a little sappy, I apologize, but I think it is important to say thank you and point out what a positive experience this has been, in so many ways.

It’s so beautiful I could cry

Yesterday we went out for nachos and beer to celebrate our being finished our beautiful as yet untitled installation. Yay!
Poor Jen, I must talk her ear off. It must be all the coffee.
She’s lovely to listen to me ranting all the time. Or at least she does a very good job of giving the impression of listening.
And she laughs all the time, it’s wonderful. It puts you in a good mood.
We also saw a young buck last night, no I don’t mean a randy young local, but a real live deer eating bushes in the museum outdoor display.
Anyhow here are some pictures of Jen doing her sewing stuff.

I'm creeping Jen in her window. If only she knew about the live feed in her shower . . .

Jen in her favorite spot. I think her shadow is permanently imprinted in the pleather.

Still working….

Things are starting to come together.  I’ve redone the slip cover, ironed it and put it onto the frame.  We cleaned the studio, and have some idea where to move all the furniture for the open houses.

Tonight Latifa moved the sound stuff into the studio and installed it under the house.  I still need to adjust the projection, hopefully so it will fall just on the house.  We are excited to see how this will turn out, all of it together!

Working, working, working.

We’ve been working.

I’ve been working on the house, making the slip cover and playing with the projection.

Latifa has been working with the sound.  The photos above show how excited she was about a breakthrough she had…. by a series of post its left on my front door.  Lol.

We are getting close to finishing what we’re working on, and so I’m hesitant about what I show here, because I don’t want to ruin it.  You should come to one of our open houses this next week, which I will be posting more about today.

Reformulating.

So I know that I’ve been a little quiet lately…. due to a couple of things.  1) Brad came to visit yesterday- Hi Brad! and 2) We’ve been reformulating a little bit. Brad also brought me a bunch of tools, so I could make something physical.

Today, I built this thing.  It’s the frame of a house.  It will be covered in white cotton, which we will be projecting onto, now that I got the projector, got it working, and all is well with that.  Latifa is working hard on the sound component.  We are definitely feeling happy and more focused with this new direction.  🙂

Sweet Panning in 5.1

I am super excited about figuring out how to Pan in 5.1. It is magical. I can automate the panning in any way I want.
Just to give you can example, it feels like this little bird is flying around me .
Jen said she didn’t notice that much, that her hearing is like her smelling, maybe she didn’t say that exactly, but if that is true . . .
Did I tell you the time she couldn’t smell the overpowering natural gas odour in the entryway?
Apparently once in a while the entryway reeks of natural gas, like 10 people farting rotten eggs all at once. The ATCO people came out, but said there wasn’t any problem, it just happens once and while.
Weird isn’t it?
So yeah, panning, I am getting my jollies out of this little baby.

Also I am NEVER using iPod Voice Memos AGAIN! IT SUCKS!!!!!!
The noise level is so high it feels like you are listening with your head wrapped in 20 layers of tin foil.
I downloaded FiRe, and it is way better, the noise level is WAY lower, you can choose the file quality and change the file format as many times as you want forever!
