This past weekend I participated in a Jacquard Weaving Workshop, hosted by the Fibre Department. Our guest artist was the amazing Louise Lemieux Bérubé, who runs the Montreal Centre for Contemporary Textiles (which Becki and I visited when we were in Montreal last year. It’s really an amazing place. They offer a full time program, as well as workshops in the summer and internships.
Anyway, the focus of our workshop was on photo manipulation to prepare files to be woven by the Jacquard loom at the center. We learned how to impose weave structures on color layers, as well as a lot of tips and tricks for making repeating patterns and image manipulations. I see these skills also being useful for Spoonflower, so that may be one of my summer projects.
Here’s some examples of the files I made. For example, this:
Ok, um, slight problem with the weaving files- more to come later.
